The Deseret Dramatic Association came about as an 1852 reorganization of the Deseret Musical and Dramatic Association that was established in 1850. The main venue for the association was the Social Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. With the arrival of Johnston's Army in 1857, activities at the Social Hall ceased, however, by the winter of 1857/58 the association was sponsoring performances again.
